Best In Show: Let's Wander Where the WIFI is Weak
Christine Sanders
Judges Comments: beautiful execution of composition and exposure. Use of the texture and leading line of the branch- while keeping the tree in the background out of focus and positioned to the side to keep from merging with the Barred Owl.
Judges Award: Locked and Loaded
Sarah Devlin
Judges Comments: So darn CUTE!! And also well executed- shallow depth of field keeping focus on the chick, but enough detail in the adult Tern so you can read the story. You can almost hear the chick saying “like this?” This is a great example of telling a story and also how bird photography is not always “in flight”, “action shots” or hard to find/exotic subjects.
Judges Award: Early Bird
Andrew Young
Judges Comments: Great image of a Yellow Rumped Warbler, these little guys move fast! Great texture and lighting, my only critique is it's a bit tight for my taste on the left side- I would have liked to see just a little more looking room if possible- but it's a super sharp image and love the details.
Judges Award: Here I come
Anne Seminara
Judges Comments: This is so good! Love the action and sharpness right on the beak/face of the bird. The blur of the wings is great to show the motion and grace of birds in flight. My only critique is, the composition is shifted towards the left a bit with extra room on the right- cropping or centering the action coming straight at you would put this up in the next category.
Judges Award: A Serendipitous Snowy
Christine Sanders
Judges Comments: Snowy Owls are such incredible animals and capturing them is such a pleasure. Whenever you can get a shot like this that shows their bright yellow eyes and feathered feet, it's a win. Great placement, and separation from the background and foreground.
Judges Award: Armed and Dangerous
John King
Judges Comments: Great shot of an American Bald Eagle- when they lock on to something, you can really capture that look and that's what you have done here. This is one that maybe could take a little more crop on the left side and bring it in tighter, but really great shot!
